Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma ½ is officially being remade as an anime more than 30 years after the original adaptation ended. This announcement comes after another adaptation by legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi. URUSEI YATSURA, has concluded its reboot broadcast.
Ranma ½ Anime Remake
Rumiko started Ranma ½ as her third major series (after URUSEI YATSURA and Maison Ikkoku) in August 1987. The manga was serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine until March 1996. It has a total of total 407 chapters, compiled into 38 volumes. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English, describing the story:
After an unexpected dip in a cursed stream during a training journey in China, martial artist Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma, are no longer themselves. Now Ranma will turn into a girl when splashed with cold water, and Genma will turn into a panda! Their new forms cause nothing but confusion at the Tendo dojo, where Soun Tendo is waiting to introduce one of his three daughters to Ranma—as his fiancée! It turns out that Genma and Soun had arranged the match a long time ago, but the girl Akane and the boy Ranma weren't really enamored with the idea or each other! Or are they? Watch the gender switches, jealous rages, and martial arts battles take place once again!
The manga was previously adapted into two anime series by Studio Deen: Ranma ½ and Ranma ½ Nettohen. These two anime series aired a total of 161 episodes from 1989 to 1992. Additionally, it released 12 OVAs and three movies. In 2011, the series also received a live-action television special.
