While I liked the outcome of this episode, I also felt it took them too long to get there. I love stories that introduce plot points that make you second-guess everything that happened before the reveal. One of the biggest questions over the past few episodes has been how Darkness's family was forced to incur such a huge debt, but I didn't expect the reason to be so deeply rooted in important events in the series. story. The reason for the debt is because they ended up incurring a lot of collateral damage caused by some of the major battles in the show. Not only is this a simple but effective explanation for their situation, but it also explains why Darkness is especially stubborn in not wanting to be rescued. She probably feels guilty about everything and thinks this is her way of repaying her family and those affected after some of those big battles.
I have to respect KONOSUBA for foreshadowing and making these plot points happen. Seeing Kazuma's disappointment at the reveal was also especially notable. My problem with this episode is that most of it felt like filler as Kazuma stubbornly waited until he got a signal from Darkness to do something. He explained that he had been thinking of a strategy the whole time and was trying not to shoot. I respect that he tries to be the most level-headed while Aqua and Megumin are willing to commit crimes without a backup plan. I guess I'm a little disappointed that Kazuma makes the right point about how he can't realistically save Darkness unless she's willing to work to save herself. The episode then ends with them sneaking in and taking her away quite easily. I'm sure there will be consequences but it's a bit strange.
The pranks with Megumin and Aqua are funny, especially when Megumin tries to disguise herself as a terrorist for her own benefit. trying to keep the wedding from being cancelled. She also tried to use her first confession to Kazuma to emotionally blackmail him into taking action, but he saw through it. That scene alone might be the best evidence for why these two could be worthy of each other. There's also a bit about Vanir explaining how his interests line up with Kazuma's. The lord who wants to marry Darkness has a reputation for ruining people's lives without evidence. Is he asking for the help of a demon so that Vanir can take advantage of the situation and fix it? That's my theory, but first, they have to get Darkness out of that guy's slimy clutches.
