Before the finger heart, Yuri!!! on Ice’s Victor Nikiforov was the original trendsetter of making hearts with his body parts.
To deal with Yuri’s long interruption!!! on Ice, a Twitter account called Daily YOI & Vitya posted scenes from the first season, which mostly revolved around living legend and lovable idiot Victor Nikiforov. On one such occasion, Twitter fans celebrated one of Victor’s most distinctive aspects. Victor did not smile; he smiles with his whole being, and when he smiles, his mouth will form a heart shape.
Victor’s charming heart-shaped smile
Victor’s heart-shaped mouth is one of the many things that make him so memorable and lovable to Yuri and the fandom as a whole. His heart-shaped smile has appeared in many scenes, but only when he is overjoyed, such as accidentally bumping into Yuri when he cheers Yuri Plisetsky or enjoying delicious food. Even when he’s not in chibi form, Victor’s natural heart-shaped mouth is still visible in his softer moments, such as in the final episode when he happily calls out Yuri’s name.
Charismatic and mysterious on and off the ice, Victor sometimes, often unintentionally, radiates an aura he cannot reach. After all, he devoted his life to his profession to achieve his position as an athlete. After meeting Yuri, he discovers that he does not need to neglect life and love. Gradually, he shows a weirder and more vulnerable side of himself, such as when he becomes flustered after Yuri teases him about his “thin hair” or when Yuri told Victor that he would retire after the Grand Prix Final.
Animated by Studio MAPPA October 2016, Yuri!!! on Ice revolves around Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki, who decides to pause her competitive career after finishing last at the Grand Prix Final. Yuri’s vacation doesn’t last long because Victor Nikiforov, the most decorated male figure skater in history, knocks on his door in the weirdest way: welcoming Yuri naked in a hot spring of his family in Hasetsu, Japan. Announcing that he will help Yuri win the Grand Prix Final, Victor pauses his career to become Yuri’s coach. Despite announcing an Ice Adolescence animated feature from 2017, the studio or the creators have yet to announce the status of the film. Fans have dealt with the absences using a variety of methods, including kissing Victor’s cardboard sheets, editing Victor into a team of real-life people, and launching a petition # MAPPAWhereIsYOI.
All 12 episodes of Yuri!!! on Ice is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
