The comics that inspired Netflix’s Ink Game
Back in 2021, director Hwang Dong-hyuk opened up about the inspiration behind his popular series and admitted that Japanese Comics and anime were a source of inspiration from the beginning. The two stories that caught his attention were Battle Royale and Liar Game.
In the interview, he said: “When I started, I myself was having financial difficulties and had to spend a lot of time in coffee shops reading manga including’Battle Royale’and’Liar Game.’I ask yourself how you would feel if you participated in the games yourself. But I found games too complicated and my work focused on using games for children instead.”
Hwang also wants viewers to relate to the characters and plot. Therefore, the idea of fierce competition is considered the main idea.

Squid Game season 2 has been confirmed months after the first season became a hit on the streaming platform. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos also confirmed the Squid Game universe, suggesting that there is more story in store for fans.
