The film will open in Japan on November 8.
The film stars former idol group Hinatazaka46 member Miho Watanabe as Akoko Sekikawa and boy band INI member Masaya Kimura as Naomi Mitomo. Former idol group=LOVE member Nagisa Saitō plays Akoko's best friend and Mitsuki Taniguchi's love rival, while Jūtarō Yamanaka plays Ao Narita, Naomi's best friend whom Akoko and Mitsuki always consult.
Mitsunori Yokobori is directing the film, as well as serving as editor and director of photography. Satoko Okazaki is writing the script. Kōji Endō is composing music.
The manga focuses on Akoko Sekikawa, a second-year high school student who is outspoken, precocious, and unable to lie to herself or others. She is always by her friend, Mitsuki Taniguchi, a girl she has been in class with since third grade. At the beginning of the school year, they are in the same class as Naomi Mitomo, who despite being held back for a year, is still the object of the students' affection. Akoko falls in love with him at first sight and immediately starts moving towards him, although Mitsuki is unimpressed and feels that it is not truly love. When Akoko asks Naomi to go out with her, she is immediately rejected, but hears the real reason why Naomi isn't dating anyone from Naomi's friends, and thus she continues to make advances. During that time, Mitsuki and Naomi find their relationship growing closer.
Kōda launched the manga in Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine in September 2017. The manga ended with its fourth compiled volume in January 2019.
Yen Press is publishing Kōda's No Longer Heroine and My Special One manga in English.
