Japanese multinational entertainment company Konami has just announced the establishment of an in-house animation studio called KONAMI animation. The new studio’s first project is a special commemorative video for the 25th anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh! playing card:
Takashi Kaiga is the main director of the video, with Aoi Fudeo, Junya Tanaka, Yuto Nakawada, Seiya Miyajima, Atsushi Tsujimoto and Ken Takahashi serving as directors. Meanwhile, Isamu Abe, Daisuke Tsuboi, Yasuhiro Aoki, Mitsutaka Echigo and Atsushi Tsubokawa are the directors. Animation producers JCSTAFF and AtoriE also collaborated on video production.
According to Konami Animation’s website, the studio’s vision is to focus on growing the Japanese anime scene to the next level by pooling all of its experience, knowledge, and cutting-edge technology. staff honed in game development and applied it to anime production. In addition to Yu-Gi-Oh! commemorative video, the studio was also credited with storyboarding, CG creation, and composing the Reign of the Seven Spellblades opening sequence.
In addition to Yu-Gi-Oh! card that Konami has published since 1999, some of the company’s most famous IPs include Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Contra, Frogger, Tokimeki Memorial, Parodius, Gradius, Suikoden and eFootball.
The company was first founded in 1969 but initially operated as a jukebox rental and repair business. It wasn’t until 1978 that the company released its first arcade game console. Since then, the company has ventured into releasing games for home computers and consoles, as well as rhythm games and collectible card games.
