Every season there are underrated anime that fall under the radar of many people. Most of these types of series don’t receive much attention in anime polls, and their ratings are usually on the lower end of the scale. But that’s what makes them so underrated–because most anime fans don’t know about them, and despite their high ratings, they’re still great series. So, in this article, I highlight five underrated winter 2024 anime that everyone needs to start watching immediately.
1. Witches and Monsters
I would go so far as to say that Witches and Monsters would be a contender for Anime of the Season if it started to gain more interest like Dead Girl Killer Farce did last season—which was great considering the show only had four episodes. Studio Yokohama Animation Lab may have given fans a huge hit last season with Kingdoms of Ruin but this time they’re doing something special. Studio MAPPA’s latest original anime series is off to a strong start led by director Hiroko Utsumi (Sk8 The Infinity). With colorful artwork, a solid voice cast, and some stunning animation to date, this animated crime action-comedy has been a huge hit so far and even delivering one of the best openings of the season.
The series has a rating of 7.48 on MyAnimeList and 72% Anilist, placing it at the bottom of the Winter 2024 lineup when it should be nowhere near it. Bucchigiri?! So far hasn’t done well in Anime Corner’s polls and the series hasn’t given fans a groundbreaking new start that they should expect new episodes on Saturdays, such as Mashle: Magic and Muscles and Apothecary Diaries. But this is a good series to look forward to the next day depending on your time zone as the Sunday lineup is pretty bare this season.
