Especially when the generated AI uses images of cosplayers
On October 16, professional cosplayer Enako took to her X (formerly Twitter) account a musing on generative AI. Her message is not about ethical usage or even how people use technology but about an emerging trend of “complimenting” her photos to look like AI.

The professional cosplayer said: “I feel uncomfortable when AI gobbles up my photos and then mass-produces photos that look like me so saying 'You look like AI' is not a compliment at all”. It's unclear whether the cosplayer is talking about comments on photos she uploads to her social media platforms or comments she receives directly, but this has happened enough for her to speak out on this topic.
AIに自分の写真をめちゃくちゃ「AIみたい」って言葉は全然褒め言葉じゃないです🙂 ↔

I feel uncomfortable when AI devours my photos and then mass creates photos that look like me so saying “You look like AI” is not a compliment at all.🙂↔️”
As of press time, her post has garnered 3.8 million views and 38,000 likes.
Enako's comments also come at a time when questions have been raised regarding the ethical use of creative AI in media. Most recently, SAG-AFTRA went on the offensive in August after the union failed to negotiate agreements with several video game companies regarding “consent, compensation and transparency related to digital copies.” digital and AI-generated systems are used to create composite performances.”
Although the professional cosplayer is known to refrain from directly commenting on the ethical use of AI, the technology, or at least, the commentary about her looking like an AI, is making her upset.
