Rie Takahashi, the voice actor for Ai in Oshi no Ko, originally wanted to play a different character.
In an interview with Anime Senpai, Takahashi revealed that she sent audition tapes for two characters: Ai Hoshino and Akane Kurokawa, who appeared later in Oshi no Ko and whom Takahashi admired. Takahashi shared that she said, “Lies are a prominent type of love,” during her tape audition, a line spoken in the first episode between Ai and Gorou. Although Takashi’s audition didn’t guarantee her the role of Akane, she did get the role of Ai in her second round of auditions.
Takahashi and Ai have many similarities, mainly that they both work in the entertainment industry and Takahashi is also a singer like Ai. When asked what advice Takahashi could give her anime co-star, the voice actress said she would encourage the idol to “be yourself because this is how she shines the most.” One thing that differentiates the two is the rules of hygiene when it comes to concerts. The voice actress posted on Twitter, encouraging fans to shower before attending her concert, but Takashi believes Ai won’t be “disturbed by this” and instead says, “Take care to the people around you and help each other when needed.” “
