Warning! Contains spoilers for Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 83! Powerful new villains introduced in Kaiju No. 8its latest installment has been completely overrun by its hero, which is not good for the story. The manga by Naoya Matsumoto depicts the constant war between the Kaijus ravaging Japan and the humans of the Japan Self-Defense Forces trying to protect the country. Its protagonist, Kafka, has gone unnoticed for a while, but his return in the latest chapter is a worrisome sign of the story’s perils.
Chapter 83, translated by Medibang Inc, begins just as the previous chapter ended with Kafka saving a soldier from one of the new super powerful Kaiju that the 9th Kaiju created to defeat the strongest members of the Defense Force. guard. Kafka must transform into his Kaiju form to do this, which will alert all designed Daikaiju to his presence. The one who fought Kikoru noted that all of the special Kaiju had to work together to defeat Kafka when he appeared, but the one closest to him ignored this advice instead rushing to attack immediately. Despite powering up to absurd levels before attacking, Kaiju’s attack barely affects Kafka, and he retaliates with a punch that destroys it instantly.
Kafka trivializes the new villains of Kaiju No. 8
This disparity in power looks cool, but it ultimately reduces the stakes of the story. These distinctive Daikaiju have been built to be formidable threats since their introduction, promising to challenge the Self-Defense Forces on both a personal and physical level. Kikoru’s fight with her Daikaiju in the past few chapters of Kaiju No. 8 has made this clear, pushing her to her limits as she seeks to surpass her mother. And the previous chapter showed the personal sacrifices ordinary soldiers must make in the face of such a threat. But just as Kafka prevented that cost in the previous chapter of Kaiju No., it seems like he can also easily interfere in his teammates’ battles.
Kafka has marked the locations where Kaiju fought Hoshina and Narumi, who may be having personal and intense battles. But, Kafka’s presence automatically lowered the stakes of those wars. With Kafka seemingly able to finish off all of these Kaiju with a single hit, he can simply take them down one by one as they are engaged in much more interesting battles with members of the Kaiju. Defense Force. After all, Kafka may have promised to stay out of Kikoru’s fight, but it’s unlikely he’d also deliver on this promise to all the other Self-Defense Forces Members.
Kaiju number 8 renders Kafka’s allies useless
Of course, Kaiju No. 9 hopes to be able to challenge Kafka, but if he does, it means that other Self-Defense Forces members are fighting an enemy that Kafka can easily defeat. won’t be of much help. Other series like My Hero Academia have been able to deal with this quite well, but Kaiju No. 8 seems to have mishandled it from the start. Hopefully the series can balance the main character’s shocking power level with the rest of the characters in this installment or else Kaiju No. 8 could also turn what appeared to be its final arc the worst.
