Prepare for a festive twist in the magical kingdom as the eighteenth episode of The Ancient Magus Bride Season 2 reveals surprises. With the mysterious attacker still at large, the decision was made to close the university throughout Christmas, casting a shadow over the festive season. However, not everyone is willing to wait in the dark.
The Ancient Magus Bride Season 2 Episode 18 Summary: How did Lucy come out alive after the Webster Incident?
The episode begins with Joseph showing hatred for winter and snow and complaining about it. Elias’s acquaintance, Silky, approached and gave him a warm blanket. Joseph calls her about needing to take care of someone. She reacts by using her powers on plants to make him stumble.
He warns her against it, explaining that he no longer recovers from his injuries easily. However, just as he said, the snow began to fall more heavily.
In the cold world of winter, Lady Winter and her majestic mount searched for Chisе. Silky quickly covered Joseph’s eyes and stood in front of him. With a shake of her head, she announced that Chisе was not here.
The winter girl turned into a flock of crows, flying into the air, making Joseph wonder what trouble Chisе was currently in.

Chisе tells Lucy that sometimes she accidentally goes into memories. She said she did it to find out why people felt sad. Lucy asks Chisе to check her memories to find clues she might have missed. Chisе didn’t really want to, but Lucy convinced her by promising to help with homework.
They bowed their heads to each other and Chisе saw the man and woman arguing about Lucy. Yes, those are werewolves too. The wolf girl doesn’t want to hurt the children and protects Lucy.
But male werewolves think they don’t belong in their group and have to do something about it. While this was going on, a small child who had seen everything said sorry to the dead man and wished that the night would always keep them safe.
After coming out of her memories, Lucy asked Chisе what she saw in her memories. Chisе said she saw a girl about her age saying sorry for what happened. Lucy was not satisfied with this answer to say the least.
From this memory, we find out why Lucy was not harmed when she was a child. The female werewolf couldn’t bring herself to hurt Lucy because the children were supposed to be kept safe.
Philomela, probably the girl back then, was supposed to lead the attack but also didn’t want to hurt Lucy by doing so. So Lucy has to survive because these two can’t bring themselves to harm her. But even if she were alive, that memory wouldn’t help her. After all, they still killed her family, even though she was spared from Death.
We then move on to the Principal and Vice-Principal discussing the closure of the university over Christmas, which means no one will be allowed to return home.
Afterwards, the Vice Principal asked questions about how to handle the criminal still lurking in the school.
The principal hasn’t paid attention to anyone—the students, the teachers, or important places like the waste tower or the lab. She just sends the elf around, saying she’s trying to do the most with the little money she has because there isn’t much to go around.
Philomela received notice that the University would be closed for longer than she thought. She did not take the news well, sadly wondering when she would get out of all this, and her hand swelled a bit. Alcyone looked worried but couldn’t find the words to say.
In the cafeteria, the remaining students discover the University’s continued closure but realize that the Christmas Party is still going on. At the same time, Chisе finished making gifts for everyone. She made amulets with the thorn rune on them for all her friends.
When Chisе goes to check, she smells Philomela’s scent but finds Alcyone instead. Knowing that Philomеla was still unwell, Chisе gave the amulet she had crafted for Philomеla to Alcyonе. Alcyone appreciated the thoughtful gesture and returned to the room.
Now let’s look at the cruelty of a grandmother. She is remembering her son, Adam, and the last thing he said, refusing to do what she wanted. She promises to get him back soon.
It seems the old woman is trying to bring her son, Adam, back to life. We heard that Adam and his wife passed away not long ago, but the details are still unclear, and he left behind a bad relationship with his mother.
Philomela has always wanted to be accepted by her grandmother, so it seems like the old lady is using her to try to make that happen. It’s a sad situation where Philomеla’s desire for acceptance is being exploited in a dark and mysterious way, involving forbidden acts to reconnect with a lost loved one.
Chisе learns more about curses from Dr. Alexandra, including the curse she received from Joseph. It wasn’t like the common hexagrams used by Mages and Alchemists—it was more like a living creature. These curses can be widespread because they are tied to strong human emotions and can be used to make bad things happen, such as bringing bad luck or causing death.
Dr. Alexandra explains that even non-magical people can curse others, but usually, the bad vibes come back to them. It’s like you get what you give, there’s a boomеrang effect.
However, Chisе’s curse is different. It’s like some kind of ancient Magic and Sorcery, where some kind of power forces her to go a certain way, and that’s the way she will always be. Chisе realizes this means she will never truly be free of her curse.
The Ancient Magus Bride Season 2 Episode 18: Who is the criminal? Who stole the forbidden book?
We then cut to Philomеla collapsing in her room. She sees her parents in her dream but cannot remember them clearly. Her grandmother scolded her, asking why she was still alive and wanting to know what she could do to be accepted. Just before Veronica knocks on the door, Alcyone appears.
When Veronica calls Philomеla, things take a dark turn. Philomela’s face was completely black, she took the amulet that Chisе gave her and said that it was not enough. She then approaches Alcyone, tears the Will of Carnamagos – the forbidden book – away from her, and finally lets Veronica inside. Philomela admits she was always afraid of Veronica before approaching her.
So the mystery is solved — it was Philomela whose book was banned. The sad thing is that it seems like she doesn’t want things to get that bad, but no matter how hard she tries, she can’t stop it.
Next, we see Rian still trying to sneak into the girls’ dorm by bribing the Dorm Mom with cat food. Suddenly, a scream pierced the air and Chisе felt something was wrong with the grimoire. Ruth warns Elias about Chisе’s condition.
Rian discovers Veronica unconscious and a strange creature hovering over her. He decides to pursue the creature while the Dorm Mother informs the teachers. Chisе expressed her desire to help, and Elias agreed without worrying about it. The fact that Elias easily agreed to Chisе wanting to help shocked her a bit.
They decided to solve the problem together. Chisе was surprised when Elias agreed, but he thought it would be better if they faced it together, especially since it might come after her anyway. Additionally, working together will benefit both of their friends.
As Rian continues his pursuit, he realizes that the creature is draining magical energy from everyone it meets. He magically enhanced a knife, creating a bloody blade to cut through its tentacles.
Even though it was almost over, Rian realized that the book’s owner, Philomela, despised him for being honest, decisive, and strong, making her feel pathetic, stupid, and useless. Rian realizes it is Philomеla and she admits to always hating him.

Her grandmother’s actions turned her into the pathetic state she is in now. Her once healthy flesh now appeared black, and what looked like tentacles had emerged from her body, looking more like tree roots than anything else.
The effects of whatever dark magic or curse she was under twisted vividly, and warped her once normal form into something strange and unnatural. It is a clear and disturbing transformation, a physical manifestation of sinister forces at play.
Lucy, Isaac, and Zoey found Rian lying on the ground, and as soon as Chisе arrived, he woke them up and urged them to do so. Stop Philomela.
Suddenly, the door to the party opens, revealing Philomela in her dark state. It’s a tense and alarming moment as Philomela’s dark transformation overwhelms the festive atmosphere of the Christmas Party.
The teachers prepare to fight but she quickly incapacitates all the students. Her twisted form explains that she needs to go and greet her parents who are waiting in Hell.
Philomela’s desire to see her deceased parents after life adds a layer of chill to the unfolding events, creating a sense of urgency and danger.
