Japan’s Studio Bones is teaming up with streaming giant Netflix to bring Time Patrol Bon to screens in anime form.
The original manga by Fujiko F. Fujio ran from 1978 to 1986 and was published in Monthly Shōnen World magazine. The story has 5 episodes and was broadcast on television in 1989. According to a report by Doremon Channel (named from the Doremon manga, same artist as Time Patrol Bon), Studio Bones’ A Team will be responsible for adapting the anime . . Studio Bones is divided into five individual groups, each with their own projects, and Group A has produced works such as Noragami. Several other teams have been responsible for creating highly successful anime including Fullmetal Alchemist, My Hero Academia and Soul Eater. The anime adaptation of Time Patrol Bon will be directed by Masahiro Ando, who previously helped make Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie.
Time Patrol Bon is set in the 22nd century and follows the adventures of Bon Namihira, an ordinary boy recruited into the secret and powerful Time Patrol. The futuristic law enforcement organization uses various forms of technology and agents across timelines to detect and prevent temporal crimes.
The Time Patrol is featured in other works by the Fujiko F. Fujio duo, such as Doraemon. Fujiko F. Fujio is the pen name of the duo Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko. Together, they wrote many comics and had quite a successful and prosperous career. The two also pursued solo projects that became independently popular, although the couple eventually split due to creative differences and financial difficulties.
This is the first anime adaptation of Time Patrol Bon besides the 1989 television special, created by Studio Gallop, famous for anime works such as Yu-Gi-Oh! titles, 2000’s Transformers: Car Robots, Anime: The Adventures of Aramis, episodes 1-66 of the first Rurouni Kenshin series, The First Stage of the Original D, and Kawa no Hikari.
Other Studio Bones projects, such as Mob Psycho 100 and My Hero Academia, are still running, with Season 7 of the latter’s hit anime set to premiere in mid-2024. The studio’s involvement, along with directorial and music team, have added more authority to the upcoming adaptation of Time Patrol Bon. Fans can expect Bon to begin solving temporary crimes in early 2024.
