The Hashira training portion of Demon Slayer season four is currently airing. Fans could infer from the title alone that the Hashira, the strongest demon hunters, would be the main theme of this season and they were right.
The story now focuses on the Hashira, who are still members of the Demon Slayer Corps, and their efforts to teach and prepare the regular students for the impending battle with Muzan, only devil.
However, one aspect of the Demon Slayer Corps has changed significantly this season: the Hashira. Kagaya Ubuyashiki, a mysterious guy, is always in charge of Hashira. It was clear that something was wrong with him from the moment he made his anime debut in Episode 5 (though we didn't see the full extent of him until Episode 22).
As Kagaya's screen time increased, that became more and more apparent. However, Kagaya becomes too weak to continue leading the Demon Slayer Corps during the Hashira Training Arc. However, what exactly happened to him?
What disease does the demon slayer master have?
Even though Kagaya Ubuyashiki is only 23 years old, she looks much older. This is because his skin has strange markings. Much of his face was covered in scars when he first appeared in Demon Slayer, extending from his forehead to his nose.
His vision was obscured by rough, scaly, purple marks. The marks had extended from his forehead to most of his face and the rest of his body by the time of the Hashira Training Arc. Due to his condition, he was confined to bed and covered in bandages.
However, Kagaya appears as a young man in flashbacks before the tattoos covered so much of his face. This only shows the initial purple mark on his right eye, which was caused by a demon's curse.
Although the curse was initially small, it gradually expanded from Kagaya's right eye and eventually covered his entire body, causing his skin to appear rotten as he aged. He would eventually die from the power of the curse mark, which left him unable to move according to the Hashira Training Circle and as a result, no longer able to command the Demon Slayer Corps.
The curse of the Ubuyashiki family
Kagaya Ubuyashiki was not surprised by his fate because it was a curse that had been passed down through generations to all the men in his family. A thousand years before the time of the Demon Slayer, Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King, was a descendant of the Ubuyashiki dynasty.
The Ubuyashiki clan is cursed for bringing the first demon into the world because Muzan is the source of all other demons. All the boys die before the age of thirty due to this curse, which is passed down through the family as a curse. The only way for girls to avoid that is to change their name and get married before the age of 13.
The Ubuyashiki family was in charge of the Demon Slayer Corps out of their sense of duty. It also explains why Kagaya put so much effort into making the Hashira into formidable warriors like them.
He had to be strict with their training during their short stay because he knew he wouldn't stay long. His partner, Amane Ubuyashiki, now speaks to Hashira and the other members of the Demon Slayer Corps on his behalf since he is bedridden and blind.
She also acts as Kagaya's primary caregiver, doing her best to ensure his comfort until the very end.
Despite his lifelong death due to the devil's curse, Kagaya Ubuyashiki achieved a lot. With Hashira, he created the most formidable force the Demon Slayer Corps had ever encountered, a force that could now defeat even the most formidable demon armies in Muzan.
Even though Nezuko himself is a demon, he still embraces Tanjiro and Nezuko. Even though they shared the same bloodline, his intense hostility towards Muzan drove him far and kept him and the mission he started even as he lay dying.
