The first episode of Pokémon Horizons, the reboot of the anime, has debuted in Japan, and the show’s new Professor has proven he’s ahead of the rest.
Historically, Pokémon Professors have tended to be of the academic type staying away from dangerous situations. For example, Professor Birch from Ruby and Sapphire was being harassed by a low-level wild Poochyena when he first met. That mostly applies to anime as well, though Alola’s Professor Kukui is a big exception, as he also has a secret identity as the Masked Royal, and serves as the Head Champion. first of Alola’s new Pokémon League. It was clear from the promotional materials that Professor Friede was no ordinary professor, but he still managed to impress in his first appearance.
Pokémon Professor Friede’s is a daring adventurer
During the premiere, Professor Friede and his spaceship crew are on the ground looking for Riko at her school. Apparently they have tracked down the perpetrators and are looking for a way to protect Riko from them. However, the villains, led by the mysterious Amethio, make contact with Riko first, and when Riko tries to flee, she finds herself in a dangerous situation. That’s when Professor Friede and his Charizard show up, engaging in the new series’ first real battle. Professor Friede’s Charizard holds Amethio’s Ceruledge impressively, and when Riko leaps off the roof, Friede and Charizard are on hand to capture her. However, Friede didn’t need Charizard to look cool; Returning to the spaceship, Friede uses Pokémon’s new mascot, Captain Pikachu in battle, and this new Pikachu is full of tricks the villains can’t handle. Friede is able to drive them away, but the villains grab Riko’s Sprigatito on their way out.
While most professors have been shown to rely on trainers working under them in such situations, Professor Friede certainly isn’t afraid to step in if the situation calls for it. Friede is really being proactive here, taking the first step to protect Riko even before she knows someone is after her. It’s perhaps no surprise that the only professor to live on a hot air balloon is also the most adventurous, but it’s still a whole new aspect of being a Pokémon Professor that his predecessors haven’t been able to find. ever shown.
Luckily, Professor Friede is looking to be a major character in the rebooted series, playing more of a role than Professor Oak did in the original series, so fans can expect to see a lot more. more about him as the series goes on. Pokémon Horizons has done a pretty good job with its cast, and one can only hope that Professor Friede will remain as cool as his debut.
