Following my January 2024 TokyoTreat Snack Box review, I’ll also be hands-on exploring Sakuraco, an authentic Japanese snack and candy subscription box. Sakuraco graciously sent me the “Hiroshima New Year” box in exchange for an honest review.
Of course, all opinions and images are my own. Please note that if you make a purchase through the links provided, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
If you’re curious to take a deeper look at Sakuraco and whether it’s worth it, you can check out my honest overall review. In this article, I will try Sakuraco’s January 2024 delicious dishes and give you the details so you can decide for yourself whether this is something you want to experience or not.
What’s in the Sakuraco Box – January 2024?
I often emphasize the neatness of both TokyoTreat and Sakuraco. The paper boxes are consistently decorated in different, charming ways, reflecting the theme inside, and the items are neatly stacked inside.
In January 2024, the Sakuraco box contained 14 items (mostly snacks), mostly sweets, although there were also some salty snacks. Additionally, it also includes a Japanese-style wrapping cloth with a cute cat pattern for good luck and a packet of adzuki bean tea.
Each Sakuraco box also comes with an English guide, allowing you to read about the tradition and understand the meaning of the box’s contents, allergens and whether it is vegan-friendly, eliminating the need to look up on Google.
Favorite snack
Banana Baumkuchen
When I observed mukbangers on Youtube making faces as if they hadn’t eaten anything in years before trying the snack, that’s exactly how I felt while enjoying this baumkuchen. Its flaky flavor and gentle banana flavor are the stuff of dreams for me and I really wish I could enjoy this soft cake every day.
Omikuji candy
Usually, you will receive omikuji (or good fortune) at Japanese shrines and temples. Instead, this time, these incredibly hard, purple candies arrived on my doorstep and I was pleasantly surprised by them. They took a while to melt in my mouth, allowing me to enjoy their sweet and salty flavor for a long time.
Taiyaki
Can you believe I had never tasted red bean paste before trying TokyoTreat and Sakuraco? Right! But since trying it, I absolutely love it! Taiyaki is a unique fish-shaped sweet with a wonderfully soft texture and sweet interior. It’s impossible not to like it!
Miyajima Cocoa Cookies
Most of Sakuraco’s pair this dish perfectly with tea or coffee, and this one is on the next level because it has a slightly rich cocoa cream inside, making it even more satisfying. The texture is irresistibly soft, just the way I love it!
Neko Furoshiki
I have a beautiful cat named Mei who I adore, so this adorable kitten-patterned fabric is a fun addition to my collection of Japanese homewares.
Closing thoughts on Sakuraco’s January 2024 Gift Box
Sakuraco’s January 2024 box contains most of the delightful traditional sweets, making it a great choice as a gift, even for adults. What’s more, each box also includes special tea packets and a fun household item like a bedspread or dishware, creating a truly memorable experience. If you love Japan and sweets, this is a great opportunity to experience authentic Japanese flavors without having to go to Japan.
