Studio Ghibli has also released cookbooks for Totoro and Castle in the Sky
The final two entries in Ghibli’s “Dining Table” series were inspired by the films My Neighbor Totoro and Castle in the Sky, respectively. Released in 1988, Totoro stars the beloved forest spirit, who later became Studio Ghibli’s official mascot. The movie’s recipe book shows fans how to make Satsuki’s bento box and grandmother’s homemade “ohagi” (sweet rice balls).
Castle in the Sky debuted two years before Totoro, following two children named Pazu and Sheeta on their quest to find a mythical floating island called Laputa. Like Satsuki, Pazu and Sheeta also know how to cook and both prepare some simple but delicious looking meals during their adventures. The Castle in the Sky cookbook includes instructions on how to make Pazu’s “fried eggs on bread” and the stew Sheeta makes for Dola’s pirate crew.
Ghibli’s Dining Table: Kiki’s Delivery Service launches on March 14. Studio Ghibli’s movie library is available to stream on Max.
