Popular manga and anime series, Saint Seiyais back in a new series from Burning Publishing House. Saint Seiya – Knights of the Zodiac: Time Odyssey begins a new adventure for the classic group of knights as they set out to confront Chronos, the god of time. The latest iteration provides a starting point for new readers, while still retaining classic elements that fans will easily recognize.
Based on the Netflix adaptation of the hit series Saint Seiya – Knights of the Zodiac, this new manga brings a new adventure to the main characters. A summary of basic events is provided in the first few pages, which cover Part 1 of the film, as well as the first four volumes of the original manga by Masami Kurumada. Ablaze Publishing’s latest series features the creative team of Jerome Alquie and Arnaud Dollen, with inspiration and storyline from the original manga author, Masami Kurumada.
Saint Seiya returns in a stunning, original story
Saint Seiya – Knights of the Zodiac: Time Odyssey briefly introduces the main characters and their backstories, then sets up a new war ahead. Following the resurrection of the Phoenix Knight, Ikki, the threat of Chronos has arrived at the Graad Foundation Manor in Tokyo. At twelve o’clock, the knights of Chronos, begin to confront the knights of Athena as they seek to destroy Ikki. This first issue is full of some of Saint Seiya’s most engaging elements: fierce battles, the power of brotherhood, and influential Greek story elements. All of this creates an attractive mix, enhanced by the colorful element.
Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac was originally serialized and published in black and white in 1985. It has since been adapted into an animated series and an animated adaptation from Netflix in 2019. This new version of Ablaze changes the original formula, using a Westernized traditional format. It reads from left to right, with full-color pages, out of 32, the way most North American comics are printed. The success of this change will depend entirely on reader preferences.
The story and character designs are very reminiscent and faithful to the original series. Each character’s strength and armor appearance are consistent with the original design. The art style remains true to that of the manga as a whole, ignoring the 3D, CGI animated nature of Netflix’s most recent adaptation. This makes the story accessible to fans of the original anime/manga series or the latest adaptation, as well as brand new readers learning about the Knights of the Zodiac for the first time. The new threat is well designed, adding to the legends of the world. Chronos appears in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension and the alternate timeline of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas. Arctos and the Twelve Hours are new, original characters that fit well into the world of the series. Saint Saiya – Knight of the Zodiac: Time Odyssey #1 is a charming and respectful addition to this generation’s iteration of the classic series.
