Oh yes. It's time to spend more SPY×FAMILY. This chapter definitely kicks things up a notch with a VERY interesting story but also delivers a super funny moment that kept me laughing.
Brief story
Medical Director Gerald G0rey is jealous of Loid's popularity at the hospital. So, Loid, Fiona and Franky (in disguise) must solve this obstacle peacefully. Yuri visits the Forger house and participates in a cooking and cleaning contest with Loid.
Anya's group as well as some people from Wald Hall are on a field trip. Their bus is hijacked by a terrorist group called Red Circus. Anya's telepathy allows her to see where they are going. She and Becky ask DaKarenn to distract their captors long enough for Anya to throw a small box containing Becky's notes and identification to the police. As a reward, leader Billy places a bomb on Anya. However, when she read his mind, she knew it was fake. Therefore, the other children considered her brave but also stupid.
DaKarenn tries to throw the bomb at him, but he gets his own (fake) bomb. The police received a citation and were able to stop the bus. The group put up blackout curtains to block snipers. Master Henderson arrives to replace his chaperone, who was injured during the robbery. The SSS successfully storms the second hijacked bus and uses it to take over Anya's bus.
Anya learns that there is a real bomb on the bus. So she uses her telepathy to make Billy remember her own daughter, who was killed by the state because of her political beliefs. To that end, he surrendered before the SSS could storm the bus. Yor rushes to the scene and Anya collapses. DaKarenn's mother Melinda arrives, but Anya reads the conflicting emotions in her mind. Later at school, Anya and the others are awarded Stella Stars for their actions.
Red Circus
I have to give big credit to Endo-sensei for some of the action and really interesting stories. Red Circus section in SPY×FAMILY Episode 11 definitely showed up and gave Anya a chance to shine. What makes Anya a character is that she is very much like a child. Thus, we can relate to her actions. Apparently, her telepathic abilities give her an advantage and thus allow her to quickly adapt to flexible situations.
On one hand, I like how there's been some progress with Anya and DaKarenn, thanks to this event. However, Endo-sensei continues to press the reset button by letting DaKarenn decide that Anya has an ulterior motive. He wasn't wrong, as Anya felt it was her duty to get closer to DaKarenn to carry out her adoptive father's mission. But at the same time, it also becomes annoying because every time he starts to acknowledge her, he has to hit the reset button to maintain the status quo.
However, that's a very minor complaint. The story Red Circus is quite good. Thankfully, Endo-sensei remembered that one of Anya's weaknesses was her psychic overload in crowds. We didn't see that early on. This works well in the story because it balances Anya's unintentionally humorous moments. And this chapter has one of the funniest moments in the first manga. I laugh every time I see Anya slapping the “bomb” because I know it's fake. But she wasn't trying to be funny. She really thought it would impress DaKarenn that she wasn't scared.
Comedy aside, Anya does a lot of good things in the story. She gets really emotional when DaKarenn asks to put her “bomb” on him. Anya instigated the police to send this letter. Anya's telepathy then allows her to say things that move Billy. And when all was said and done, Yor literally ran to the scene, Anya practically broke down. So overall, this is a great story.
Final thoughts and conclusion
Let me end my review on SPY×FAMILY Episode 11 with some final thoughts.
Nightfall (Fiona) disguised as a man is a very difficult task. But the story in the first chapter is very interesting so I'll skip that. The story of Yuuri being jealous is interesting but at the same time a bit tiring. I found it interesting that Martha and Henry got to know each other. Assuming (😅) the translators do not take liberties, the way they address each other intimately shows that they have known each other for a while and are friends. In my previous episode review, I mentioned that Melinda seemed a bit psychotic. Anya read her mind after the students were released. OH. On one hand, she adores DaKarenn. On the other hand, she loathed him. No wonder the poor boy is like that. And she seems a bit strange to her husband. There is very little omake content. It's not surprising given the intensity of the Red Circus arc.
Final, SPY×FAMILY Episode 11 is a truly great entry in the series. I'm really looking forward to the next episode.
