Kodansha's listing for the special edition volume 8 of Tsumi Eguchi's Dekin no Mogura (The Banned Mole, or The Banned Mogura) manga has that volume's cover stating that the anime adaptation will be “airing” beginning. from July 2025 The cover also lists Yūichi Nakamura as starring in the anime as Momoyuki Mogura. This volume is scheduled for release on November 21, and the special edition includes a postcard book.

Eguchi launched the manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine in April 2021. The manga will also be available in the Comic Days service.
The manga revolves around two university students Magi and Yaeko, who one day witness a Kōjien dictionary falling on a man's head and injuring him. However, even though his head was bleeding, the man expressed that he did not want them to call an ambulance or the police for him, which seemed suspicious. Additionally, after this meeting, both Magi and Yaeko began to see strange things.
Eguchi launched the Hozuki's Coolheadness manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine in 2011. The series ended in the magazine in January 2020. Kodansha USA is publishing the manga digitally in English.
The 31st and final manga volume comprising the third part of the most recent OAD series when it was released in August 2020. The first OAD in the trilogy was published with the 29th volume of the manga in September 2019 and the second OAD was published in March 2020. The manga also inspired four OADs published with volumes 17, 18, 19 and 24.
The manga inspired three 13-episode anime television seasons. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired beginning in January 2014, and Sentai Filmworks released the series on home video. Sentai Filmworks later streamed the second and third seasons on HIDIVE in fall 2017 and spring 2018.
The manga is inspired by a smartphone puzzle game that launched in June 2019.
