Movie One Piece Film: RED is a paradoxical experience for manga fans One Piece.
In the movie, we see Luffy in his strongest form – Gear 5, which was only supposed to appear after the events of the Wano arc. Or if you look at the Straw Hat members and the weapons they use, you can see that the group has just left the country of Wano. First, Jinbe was in the crew, Zoro used the sword Enma and Luffy even had the title Yonko (Four Emperors), a title he only got after defeating Kaido.
This has raised a huge question mark for manga followers. Because female Four Emperor Big Mom is said to have been defeated and died by Trafalgar Law and Eustass Kid at the end of the Wano arc. That also means Big Mom appeared in One Piece Film: RED caused conflicts with the manga.
Does the movie suggest that Big Mom survived and will return later? This is possible but it only makes the story more confusing.
Additionally, the character Uta in One Piece Film: RED being confirmed as canon (official) makes the film even more confusing. Obviously the events in the movie aren’t counted as canon, but the movie’s main villain Uta is, unintentionally adding another layer of confusion to the plot.
It’s almost as if the movie is trying to be two things at once. One is an expansion of the original story and the other is a side story that can be skipped. The result is a combination that, while interesting, is stuck in a classic kind of limbo.
But despite all this confusion, the film still has its merits. Fans got to see Luffy and Shanks unleash their most powerful techniques in a series of epic battles. The film may not completely fit into the manga’s timeline, but it does give fans heart-pounding action and memorable moments.
So if you can look past the continuity issues of the story line, there’s a lot of great things in this movie. But if you’re the type of fan who values the continuity of the original storyline, you’ll probably encounter a lot of unanswered questions.
