Eiichiro Oda's creative talent is his ability to come up with anything without warning. One Piece is always open to some of the weirdest ideas and it offers endless possibilities, in ways we can hardly imagine.
With countless theories being put forward by fans, it can be seen that Oda's imagination is limitless. Imu's identity is a curious mystery in One Piece, no fan knows who he is, so there are many theories about Imu spreading. Of all the possibilities, one that has surprised fans quite a bit is that Imu is an alien.
Imu's Immortality in One Piece Has Extended Beyond the Void Century
Some of the most iconic anime and manga have introduced the concept of aliens, Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball being the epitome of the genre. Even when the possibility of connecting with aliens seems implausible, there seems to be a way to pave the way, like Naruto.
For a series like One Piece, Eiichiro Oda leaves a lot of things vague and mysterious, especially when it comes to Imu. In a theory on Quora, fans speculate that the possibility of Imu being an alien is very high. Especially considering how he was probably alive and active before the events of the Void Century.
One of the biggest clues could be the Ancient Weapon and how Uranus seems to be under the control of the Imu. Then seeing how Pluton was built during the Void Century, the possibility that it was built to counter the Imu and the lunarians becomes a possibility.
Eiichiro Oda ventures down a path that is nothing new.
Readers know very little about Imu and who he is. Imu's attack on Lulucia bears an uncanny resemblance to Enel's attack on the Ark Maxim in the Skypiea arc. Furthermore, it has never been revealed how Enel got the idea to create such a destructive weapon. While it is not explicitly explained, the idea that it was inspired by Uranus is not too far-fetched.
Dragon Ball used aliens, Naruto did it, if Oda did the same in One Piece then it wouldn't be anything new.
Imu's immortality may have made him the sworn enemy of the Sun God Nika, who had been on the throne even before Joyboy. Imu may have initiated a full-blown alliance as a response to Joyboy becoming the first pirate. However, if Imu was a king in the Void Century, it would also be reasonable to assume that there must have been a past that led him to the throne.
Imu's immortality may come from the fact that he comes from the moon and even his original home is there. Akira Toriyama and Masashi Kishimoto have introduced the concept of aliens in their worlds, if Oda were to follow in their footsteps, Imu's big reveal would lack originality and depth.
