It's time for another round of Daima Friday as our trip through the Demon Realm takes a slight detour. Compared to the last few episodes, this one was slower, but that mostly worked to the show's benefit. The downtime helps build more chemistry between Goku and his new friends, while also providing an opportunity to understand a little better all the mysteries surrounding Glorio. While we end up getting as many questions as we do answers, it at least culminates in one of the show's best action scenes to date.
When we last left the crew, they were in the middle of another ship crash, and while I'm not so sure about them having to walk for a few more episodes, it seems like the damage wasn't as bad as the humans. filming that implies. It gives us a solid joke about Panzy claiming to only carry the essentials, like toilet paper and camping gear despite all the visible junk sticking out out of her pocket, which is also a good sign that she will be a cheerful person. adding to our small group of travelers. That feeling only intensifies as we watch her get away with young Goku's wild antics, and her constant disgust at his complete lack of good enough hygiene for me A little less worried about her feeling too much like a discount Bulma.
This stop also gives more insight into the Glinds as Panzy seems confused when Goku calls Shin the Supreme Kai and how much power he seems to have. The whole concept of the Kais seems foreign to her, meaning there could be a story behind them being at the top of cosmology that we don't know yet. We also learn more about Shin's relationships with siblings Degesu and Dr. Arinsu. They are not really “brothers and sisters” but come from the same place. As it turns out, the entire race of Glinds are genderless tree people and three of them happened to be born from the same tree with an age gap between them of several hundred years. However, Shin points out that Degesu has always been more ambitious than the other Glinds, and that ambition is part of the reason why he chose to stay in the Demon Kingdom rather than join them in the outside world. While there isn't much to glean from that, knowing he was ambitious makes me wonder how he could be happy working under someone as silly as King Gomah, and will he be loyal to the little guy or just pursue him to achieve his personal goals.
While all of that left us with a lot of questions, at least we got a few new answers in the meantime. When the group encounters King Gomah's forces, Glorio reveals that he is actually from the First Demon Realm, and although he is not native to it, he has a patron is backing him behind the scenes. Unknown to the others, that patron was none other than Dr. Arinsu, meaning Glorio had long been on King Gomah's payroll. Given how long the show has been vague about his motives, it's a less exciting reveal than I expected. However, there are a few things that kept me from completely losing interest in this. We know that demons from the Third Demon World like Panzy are said to wear collars on their bodies. The same is said to be true of Glorio. Maybe working for Gomah might bring more freedom that comes with it than being devoted to him. If that's the case, he'd be a bit more interesting, so I'm curious to know exactly how close he is to them.
The group then decides to spend the night in a cave only to come across a Minotaur trying to cook them dinner. Glorio decides to take matters into his own hands, but when Goku tells him he might be overwhelmed, this offends Glorio enough to challenge Goku to a fight. Since Goku is still well…Goku, it goes without saying that Glorio has no prayers against him and it takes some prodding from Shin to get Goku to get serious and decide to see what Glorio is capable of. While this may sound a little too one-sided to make for an interesting fight, it's ultimately the flashiest fight of the show, as Glorio uses both magic and fists to demonstrate his power. me. I was hoping we could go a little longer without seeing any energy beams, but having them come entirely from Glorio would give the fight enough presentation to rise above the beam fights the usual beam of Z and Super, and serves as a nice image. the index shows how much stronger Goku is. However, the real kicker is watching the Minotaur react to all of this as he goes from annoyed by his prey to downright scared when he sees how strong Goku is and looks at him trying to escape the stage while still trying to look scary. Great punchline to end this.
Since it seems like Glorio is proud of his strength despite his aloof attitude, I wonder how being humbled like this will affect him. Mainly if he will carry a Vegeta sized chip on his shoulder after a loss or if he will instead choose to try and learn from Goku. Either way, the possibilities seem interesting and it would be a good way to get him more attached to the others so we don't have to wait for him to betray them. Time will tell exactly where this goes but now that Glorio doesn't just seem mysterious, I want to see how he develops as a character.
