Luffy as he discusses his dream of becoming the Pirate King and setting up an adventure to the Grand Line. Additionally, it offers first glimpses of Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji. It also provides an official release date of August 31, 2023.
One Piece Live-Action trailer reveals fan-favorite characters
The trailer introduces Eiichiro Oda’s iconic characters in a variety of action and dialogue scenes, mainly focusing on Luffy. However, Mackenyu’s Zoro also received a lot of attention, with a short segment showing off his sword fighting prowess — though they didn’t show off his famous three-sword technique. Emily Rudd’s Nami also has a few lines in the ad, showing off her iconic red hair and outfit. Gibson and Skylar, as Usopp and Sanji, are only around for a short time, but fans of the characters still have a solid chance to see their designs. The trailer ends with a VFX of Luffy’s Gum-Gum Pistol, a move that shows him using his Rubber Man Devil Fruit powers to deliver a powerful punch.
There’s also much more to explore in the ad, including a look at different villains. Most striking is a glimpse of clown-themed pirate Buggy (Jeff Ward). Alternatively, loyal fans of One Piece might spot the pink-hearted pirate ship belonging to Alvida (Ilia Isorelys Paulino), the first villain to appear in the series. Finally, the scene where Zoro is tied up in the Navy base features a giant poster of Ax-Handed Morgan (Langley Kirkwood). This villain is the marine captain that Luffy and Zoro confront in Romance Dawn.
The trailer doesn’t just showcase the heroes and villains; it also introduces a collection of the main locations in the series. There are many shots of the Going Merry ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, clearly depicting the aesthetic and practicality of the ship. Viewers can also see the beach restaurant, The Baratie, in the background of a shot.
One Piece, written by Eiichiro Oda, is a beloved series that the author has been working on for decades, often taking a toll on his health. Many fans are excited about the new adaptation of the series, but others are concerned, thanks to Netflix’s history with live-action anime projects. This includes the poorly received titles Death Note (2017) and Cowboy Bebop (2021). However, Oda has confirmed that the series will only be released if he is satisfied.
The Toei Animations One Piece anime is available to watch on Crunchyroll. Additionally, the manga is available to read on the Viz Media website with a Shonen Jump subscription.
