Kozaki launched the manga in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine in December 2011. Manga UP! describes its story:
Summer, 20XX. A chocolate donut-shaped creature resembling a cat, Donyatsu, walks among the ruins of a collapsed civilization. He and his friends experience a carefree life in this strange world. But the question remains where did humans go? And what caused this post-apocalyptic situation? An easy sci-fi adventure that unravels these mysterious creatures!
The manga ended in its sixth volume and inspired a short 12-episode anime adaptation that debuted in 2013 and ended in June 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the series.
Crunchyroll Manga previously hosted an English translation of the manga. Crunchyroll ended its digital comic distribution service Crunchyroll Manga on December 11. Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global is currently working on adding more Square Enix titles that Crunchyroll Manga has previously released to its service.
