The live-action drama adaptation of the manga My Dress-Up Darling will begin airing on MBS and TBS on October 8 JST (effective from midnight October 9 JST) in the Dramaism block.
Model and actor Riko Nagase will play Marin Kitagawa, the otaku heroine of the cosplay-themed romantic comedy series. Meanwhile, the male lead Wakana Gojou is Kota Nomura. The MBS website for the drama My Dress-Up Darling says that this is Nomura's first leading role.
The production team includes Koji Shintoku (Honey Lemon Soda) directed and Satoko Okazaki (Lovesick Ellie) as screenwriter.
My Dress-Up Darling manga series by Shinichi Fukuda debuted on Square Enix's Young Gangan in January 2018 and will release its 14th tankoubon volume on November 25, 2024. Square Enix describes the premise as follows:
Traumatized by a childhood incident with a friend who disliked traditional dolls, Wakana Gojou, an aspiring doll artisan, spends her days as a doll artisan. A loner, she finds solace in her high school home ec room. To Wakana, people like the beautiful Marin Kitagawa, a trendy girl always surrounded by a lot of friends, are practically aliens from another world. But when the cheerful – and never shy – Marin sees Wakana sewing one day after school, she barges in with the aim of drawing her quiet classmate into her secret hobby: cosplay! Can Wakana's wounded heart withstand this sexy alien invasion?!
A television anime series produced by CloverWorks aired during the Winter 2022 anime season and a sequel has been announced.
