Kugisaki Nobara is one of the newest Jujutsu Kaisen characters who could join Nanami in the afterlife.
In episode 18, Jujutsu Kaisen fans bid farewell to Nanami, a fan-favorite character from the series, who Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration killed.
Unfortunately, the recent episode (episode 19) may have killed off another character, and the culprit was the special level curse, Mahito.
In episode 19, the battle continues between Nobara Kugisaki and Mahito, as she has some plans to destroy this nasty cursed spirit.
When she used her “Resonance” curse technique on Mahito, she realized the one she was fighting was an impostor (copy), and it couldn’t use Idle Transformation.
When this clone realized it was outmatched, it ran towards the original Mahito. When they were about to merge, they replaced each other, and now the original Mahito is chasing Nobara.
Itadori shouted for Nobara to run, but Mahito initially touched Nobara’s face, which activated Idle Transformation. We then hear the sound of splashing water as Nobara lies on the ground, motionless.
Is Nobara Kugisaki dead?
In short, the answer to this question is Unknown. After Nobara was hit by Mahito’s Idle Transformation, her entire body detransformed and exploded, just like Nanami did.
Instead, only part of her face is affected by this. Meaning Idle Transformation doesn’t fully work on her.
Her current condition can be compared to Megumi’s state when he was beaten by Mahoraga, which is a state of “hanging death”, which requires immediate medical attention.

Kugisaki Nobara’s Future (SPOILERS!)
After she was hit by Mahito’s curse, Itadori’s mind became stuck as he was currently in a complete mental breakdown.
But fortunately, Todo came and pulled him out of his depression. Accompanying him is Arata Nitta, a first-year jujutsu wizard specializing in “Curse Reversal Technique”.
He attempted to heal Nobara immediately, but due to her severe injuries, he only prevented Mahito’s Idle Transformation from spreading.
Even though Arata specializes in “Curse Reversal Technique”, he is still a first year student. What Nobara needs now is an expert in this technique like Shoko or Okkutsu.
After leaving Aoi behind, Arata takes Nobara with him to safety, not promising her survival.
The last time Nobara is mentioned in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga is in chapter 144. In The Killing Game, Yuji Itadori asks Megumi about what happened to Nobara. Megumi did not answer but appeared worried.
As of the latest chapter (chapter 244), Nobara has not returned so the future of her survival remains uncertain.
It’s important to point out that Jujutsu Kaisen author Akutami Gege, in an interview, said that among Gojo and the early years, either one person will die or everyone will die except one person.
Since the status of Megumi, Nobara, and Gojo is still unknown, it seems like fans will get a darker ending to the series.
