Next January’s Ishura anime has received two important images, each featuring part of its strong main cast. A Japanese opening date of January 3 was also revealed.
This dark fantasy anime series is based on the light novel series published by KADOKAWA written by Keiso with illustrations from Kuretawhich began in 2019 and has eight episodes as of October 2023. Yen Press describes the plot as follows:
In a world where the Demon King is dead, a series of demigods capable of taking him down have inherited the world. A master swordsman can find a way to defeat an opponent with just a look; a spearman so fast he can break the sound barrier; a wyvern rogue who fights with three legendary weapons at once; an omnipotent wizard who can turn thoughts into reality; an angelic assassin that causes instant death. Eager to achieve the title of “True Hero,” each of these champions pursues challenges against formidable enemies and causes conflict between them. The battle to determine the strongest of the mighty begins.

Ishura ranked first in This Light Novel as the great novel/tankoubon of 2021 and inspired a manga adaptation by Meguri. Before the books were published under the Dengeki no Shinbungei label, the story was released as a web novel, which began serialization in Kakuyomu and Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2017.
The anime will be available to stream on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ for the rest of the world. The first two episodes screened at Anime NYC in November.
