Production IG produced four anime adaptations, including the first part of the two-part concluding film, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, opens in Japan on February 16, 2024. Medialink describes the plot:
“Shoyo Hinata was inspired to play volleyball after watching “Small Giants” in elementary school. Despite a heavy loss to middle school rival Tobio Kageyama, Hinata joins Karasuno High School's volleyball team, only to find Kageyama there. Old enemies unite, forging a formidable partnership thanks to Hinata's agility and Kageyama's precision.
During a joint training camp with Nekoma High School, Hinata meets her future rival, Kenma Kozume. While Karasuno focuses on aggressive attacks, Nekoma excels in defense, embodying the motto “Connect”. Through these meetings, Karasuno learns new strategies and abilities.
In the Miyagi Prefectural Spring High School Volleyball Tournament and preliminary round, Karasuno defeated formidable opponents, culminating in a spectacular victory over Inarizaki High School. They are preparing to face long-time rival Nekoma High School in the highly anticipated third round. Despite many practice matches, these two powerhouse teams have never officially clashed. This long-awaited match is famously known as the “Battle of the Trash Cans.”
