Godzilla Minus One, Takashi Yamazaki’s new film in TOHO’s Godzilla franchise, held the No. 1 spot in its second weekend of release. The film sold 356,000 tickets for 560,187,210 yen (about $3.69 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film sold a total of 1.35 million tickets for a cumulative total of 2,111,655,810 yen (about US$13.91 million).
The film opened in theaters in the United States on December 1 and sold 648,600 tickets for 1,041,193,460 yen (about US$6.93 million) in its first three days at the Japanese box office. The film sold 14.7% more tickets and earned 22.8% more in its first three days than the last Japanese live-action Godzilla film, Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi’s Shin Godzilla, did. made it in the first three days of 2016.
Godzilla Minus One opens in Japan on November 3, 2023 (“Godzilla Day”), which is the anniversary of the first Godzilla film released on November 3, 1954. Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) and is the closing film of this year’s event on November 1.

Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Tsugihagi Kōjo no Fushigi na Ko (The Makeshift Factory’s The My Serious Child), the third anime film in San-X’s Sumikko Gurashi series, dropped from #2 to #4 in its second week premiered in Japan. The film earned 142,026,680 yen (about $936,100) from Friday to Sunday. The film sold a total of 330,000 tickets and grossed a total of 423,970,220 yen (about US$2.79 million).
The film opened in Japan on November 3 and sold 192,300 tickets for 242,553,320 yen (about US$1.61 million). The first three days are available at the Japanese box office.
Hazumu Sakuta (Neko no Dayan, Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun) directs his third film at Fanworks. Takashi Sumita (Europe Kikaku) returned from the first film to write the script for the third film. Yoshihiko Inohara and Manami Honjō return from the first and second films to narrate the third film.
In the third film’s story, the characters find an ancient building deep in the woods. The building turned out to be a toy factory. They all start making toys in the factory, with Shirakuma using his skills to operate a sewing machine and Penguin? Examine the toy with a magnifying glass. The film won Best Animation of the Year at the 29th Annual Japan Film Critics Awards in June 2020.
Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Aoi Tsukiyo no Mahō no Ko (The Miraculous Child of the Blue Moon Night), the second film, opened in Japan in November 2021 and sold about 200,000 tickets to gross about 250 million yen ( approximately 2.22 million US dollars) in the first three days.
The series had its first anime television series airing on October 6, and then all five episodes on November 5.

One Piece Film Red’s month-long encore screening dropped from 3rd to 6th place in its fourth weekend. The encore screening earned 69,893,120 yen (about $360,600) from Friday to Sunday. Including the original screening from August 6, 2022 to January 29, the film earned a cumulative total of 20,265,362,790 yen (about 133 million USD). An encore screening opened in Japan on October 20. The film originally opened in Japan. in September 2022.
The film — described as part of a “new theatrical series” — consists entirely of concert footage of idol group ST☆RISH. Noriyasu Agematsu is again credited as the original creator with Broccoli. Elements Garden composed the music and A-1 Pictures produced the film. Shochiku is distributing the film.

“Gintama on Theater 2D: Baragaki-hen,” a compilation film of the “Baragaki”(Thorn)y) arc of the Gintama anime, opened at No. 9 on Friday. The film earned 41,136,400 yen (about US$271,000) in its first three days of release.
This collection is part of the Gintama franchise’s 20th anniversary, with 2023 being the 20th anniversary of Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama manga and 2026 being the 20th anniversary of the television anime’s premiere. The Yorinuki Gintama-san rerun of the television anime also spawned two collections”on Theater 2D” in 2012 and 2013.

PA Works’ new anime series project Komada-A Whiskey Family (Komada Jōryūsho e Yōkoso, literally”Welcome to the Komada Distillery) opened at No. 10 on Friday. The film earned 39,885,800 yen (about US$262,800) in its first three days.
The film was screened at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, held from June 11 to 17 in the French town of the same name, in the Contrechamp category. The film was also screened in the Animation section of the 36th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) from October 23 to November 1.
The film revolves around Rui Komada, the young head of her family’s whiskey distillery. She takes over the distillery after her father’s death. Faced with financial hardship, a divided family, and the aftermath of a natural disaster, Rui takes it upon herself to strengthen family bonds. by reviving the family’s signature Japanese whiskey.
Masayuki Yoshihara (The Eccentric Family, Mai no Mahō to Katei no Hi) directed the film at PA Make. Yukito Kizawa and Munemasa Nakamoto, who both worked extensively on the scripts for the Monogatari and Sword Art Online series, wrote the script. Tomomi Takada, a veteran PA. Works was the main animator and intermediary, drawing the initial character design concepts, while Kousuke Kawazura (The Eccentric Family) designed the characters for the animation, while also serving as animation director. Tatsuya Katō composed the music. DMM is credited as the manufacturer. GAGA Group is distributing.
The film is the fifth installment of Works’ PA Series “workplace” about people and their work, following Hana-Saku Iroha, Hirobako, Sakura Quest and The Aquatope on White Sand.
PA Works’ “workplace” series began with Hana-Saku Iroha in 2010, focusing on a hot springs inn. Hirobako followed in 2014, focusing on the anime industry. Hirobako also produced a sequel film in 2020. Sakura Quest debuted in 2017 and focuses on girls involved in small-town tourism. Aquatope on white sand launched in 2021 and focuses on the aquarium business.
