Fairy Tail: 100 Year Quest 17
フェアリーテイル 100年クエスト
Summary/SPOILER Summary:
Lucy uses all her mana to create the Aquarius-Scorpio fusion outfit, allowing her to defeat a single Metro golem. The other Fairy Tail members fight the golem to varying degrees of success. Juvia and Gray attack Metro, who crushes Juvia. However, thanks to her water powers, she was unharmed. Unfortunately for her, Metro decided to absorb her, using her body as a shield.
Gray has difficulty attacking Metro without harming Juvia. When Gray is forced to acknowledge Juvia's power, Juvia begins to seethe, harming Metro. This gives Gray an idea, so with Juvia's support, he uses his ice magic to turn her into a weapon. After freeing Juvia, she and Gray begin a Unison raid to defeat Metro.
Elsewhere, the Gears use magic that causes Jellal to begin forgetting how to do things. As such, Jellal even begins to hallucinate that Erza is attacking him and not Gears. When Gear's magic stops Jellal's time, he finds himself in limbo, where an image of Ultear visits him. Their conversation leads Jellal to find a way to overcome Gear's magic by using thought-form magic to “split” himself in two.
Jellal's Siegrain himself remains bound by the Gear. This stunned Gears as Jellal informed him that Gears was under Jellal's spell. Thus, Jellal destroyed Gears, defeating him. Back with Lucy, Brandish offers to strengthen one of their party members to fight Aldoron. Inside the Wood Dragon God, the Seed God Aldoron revealed to Naruto that he would destroy the other five Dragon Gods.
Thoughts/Review:
I must be able to say, I like it Fairy Tail: 100 Year Quest 17 more, even if we do get an extended synopsis and silly extras with Brandish.
The power of love
I have loved the character of Juvia since she was introduced to the series. The only annoying part about her character is her relationship with Gray, who she had to fight with in the introduction. Even though Mashima-sensei doesn't allow the character to make too many advances when it comes to romance, he does give Gray x Juvia fans shivers in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 17.
Sure, it could be argued that we know that Gray cares deeply for Juvia. And it's clear that Juvia LOVES “Gray-sama”. That said, when Gray told Metro that Juvia was his power, I loved that moment. Yes, it resulted in Juvia seething in Juvia's excitement. And yes, Gray refuses to say he loves Juvia, and refuses to repeat what he said to Metro. However, he pulled Juvia close and expressed his gratitude. Sure it's just scraps, but sadly, that's all we can hope for.
On the other romance front is Jellal x Erza. When she regains consciousness, she acts like a child when Laxus calls Jellal her boyfriend. However, as for Jellal, his battle with the Gears made him think that Erza was giving him a legitimate blow. Here, Mashima-sensei seeks to bring Ultear back to encourage Jellal to live for Erza after all Erza has done for him.
I really wish Mashima-sensei was better at love. He seems quite shy about it, but then shows a few supporting characters getting married. Gajeel and Levy suddenly expecting a child was a surprise, but there was no proper story to set it up.
Final thoughts and conclusion
Let me summarize my review Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 17 with some final thoughts.
I couldn't help but laugh a little when I saw Naruto and the Seed god Aldoron just twiddling their thumbs waiting for Metro and the Gears to be defeated. Juvia's use of the term “netorare” (NTR in the subtitles) also made me laugh. It looks like Brandish will be used again to bail Fairy Tail out of a bit of trouble when fighting Aldoron's dragon body. As an aside, I will say that while the funny introduction with Brandish actually fits the episode (unlike other humorous introductions), it's still difficult to continue a story in this fashion bear. I mentioned that Mashima-sensei brought back Ultear in a unique way. Technically, he also found a way to bring Siegrain back. At this point, it's clear the guest train will continue.
Final, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 17 Quite interesting, more than I expected.
