Dandadan episode 1 review
After a long time, I was at a loss for words to describe what I just saw, but I must confess that I loved every detail of it. At its core, this anime is about two individuals with very different perspectives. They also have diverse personalities, one is a popular girl, and the other is a loner. The movie opens with the female protagonist Momo being rejected by the scumbag boyfriend she agreed to date just because he reminded her of famous actor Takakura Ken. She then comes across a mercilessly bullied boy, whom she saves without thinking too much.
This encounter encourages the boy to talk about aliens with Momo, only to find out she has no interest in them. On the contrary, she strongly believes in ghosts because she has a deep connection with them. Once strangers, these two eventually started arguing, trying to prove each other wrong. Finally, a bet was placed; The girl will visit a building famous for UAP sightings, and the boy will visit a famous haunted tunnel. And this is when everything goes horribly wrong.
Right away, you'll notice how different the animation style is. The characters show very loud, almost cartoonish actions, moreover, they are also very quirky but not lacking in emotion. Momo is aggressive and violent but at the same time very sensitive when it comes to her grandmother. The music is also upbeat with retro and disco beats that enhance the absurdity of this situation.
Now, if I had to point out the best part of the show, it would definitely be the aliens and ghosts we see. These things not only scared me but also drove me crazy and made me laugh. I never thought I would witness a ghost wanting to devour and an alien asking the female lead for bananas.
Verdict
I think I've said enough, because it would be a crime if I spoiled anything more. Check out this show because I'm sure it has the potential to be one of the best anime this year. If you like funny, scary and extremely entertaining shows then this is for you.
