Electronics retailer Best Buy revealed on Friday that it will stop selling DVDs and Blu-ray Discs both in stores and online in early 2024, citing changing media consumption patterns. . Sales will be discontinued in the new year. This store will continue to sell video games.
DVD and Blu-ray disc sales have been decreasing over the years. According to data from trade association DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group, US physical media revenue in the first half of 2023 fell to $754 million from $1.05 billion in the same period in 2022.
Leading DVD distributor Ingram Entertainment also announced its withdrawal from the market in the new year.
This announcement leaves Walmart, Amazon and Target as the remaining leading retailers of physical media in the US market.
