Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero follows Marona, a young woman with the ability to communicate with illusions. She is on a journey to save her friend Ash. The mechanics of turn-based tactical RPGs are known for their gridless distance-based movement system (as opposed to the grid-based movement in most other tactical RPGs), as well as the Unique Confine. Marona can summon her ghost allies into battle as controllable units by imprisoning them in objects on the map, then enhancing their innate abilities depending on items in which they were detained. Units are limited to only lasting a certain number of turns, and Marona herself is very weak, so players must strategize based on their list of ghost allies, location, and item availability on a given map as well as a time limit for each individual ghost summoned.
NIS America will release Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle Remastered, a remaster of the first Phantom Brave game, on PS5 on November 7.
The original Phantom Brave game launched for PlayStation 2 in 2004, and it launched for PC via Steam in July 2016. The Prinny Presents NIS Classics Collection Volume 1 launched for Switch in August 2021 and includes Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle Remastered.
