South Korea's Bucheon International Animation Festival announced winners for its 2024 festival on Tuesday, including honors for the films Fureru., Trapezoid and Gridman Universe.
The festival awarded a special trapezoidal Special and Cosmic Gridman Award along with an Audience Award. Fureru. won the Korean Animation and Animation Studies Association (KOSCAS) President's Award, the DHL Diversity Award as well as the Kinolights Award.
Three Japanese short films also competed in the festival, including:
“Maidens of the Ripples”by Michiko Soma”Extreme Short”by Ryo Orikasa”Miserable Miracle”by Koji Yamamura
“Scent of First Love” by Maho Takagi animated short (“Hatsukoi no Nioi”) and Sound by Tatsuya Ishihara! Euphonium 3, the third season of the anime series, competed in the “Drama&Commissioned” category.
Bucheon International Animation Festival takes place from October 25-29 at Bucheon City Hall, Korean Manhwa Museum, CGV Bucheon, Bucheon Arts Center, Webtoon-Bucheon Complex Center. The festival describes its goals:
Animation film festival with general competition categories, including feature films, short films, graduation films, Korean short films, dramas & Commissions. This festival aims to spread the true appeal of the animation genre and develop as a professional animation festival in Asia.
Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko, Studio 4°C's animation based on Kanako Nishi's Gyokō no Nikuko-chan (Novel Nikuko of the Fishing Harbor), won the Animation and Animation Research Association's President's Award Korea (KOSCAS) in the Special Award category, and Masaaki Yuasa's INU-OH, a musical anime feature film based on Hideo's novel Heike Monogatari: INU-OH no Maki (Tales of the Heike: INU-OH) Furukawa, won the Special Prize in the International Competition-Feature Film category at the 2021 film festival. In addition, Yoriko Mizushiri's work “The Anxious Body” (“Fuan na Tai”) won the Special Prize in the International Competition – Short Film category.
