On the occasion of the release of the second “test video”, the 29th and 31st episodes of Aura Battler Dunbine will stream on Sunrise's YouTube channel from November 15 to 28. The episodes mark the first appearance of Aura Battlers Billbine, Zwarth and Dark Knight.
The first “test video”AURA BATTLER DUNBINE SIDE L” began airing on May 8. The video incorporates new footage to evoke (but not exactly recreate) the opening and ending scenes of Aura Battler Dunbine. The film features the theme songs “Dunbine Tobu” and “Mieru Darō Byston Well” by MIO, and features old footage from the anime along with a narrated summary by voice actor Norio Wakamoto.
Sunrise's 1983 series was an alternate retelling of Mobile Suit Gun author Yoshiyuki Tomino's first The Wings of Rean novel from the same year. This was followed by a three-episode original video anime (OVA) series titled Aura Battle Dunbine: The Tale of Neo Byston Well. This series of novels went on to inspire Garzey's Wing in 1996 and The Wings of Rean in 2005.
ADV Films previously released the series in North America. The series briefly aired alongside other Sunrise shows on the Daisuki streaming service in 2017. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series in 2018 and began streaming on HIDIVE in April 2018. Sentai Filmworks released the film on Blu-ray Disc in August 2018.
