The film opened in Japanese theaters on June 28. The film ranked No. 2 in ticket sales (but No. 1 in weekend receipts) in its opening weekend. The film sold 135,000 tickets and earned 227 million tickets (about 1.40 million USD) in the first three days of release.
GKIDS opened the film on October 4 in New York and Los Angeles, then on October 6 and 7 more widely in North America. The film earned $688,253 at the US box office in its opening weekend.

Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Flip Flappers) directed the anime, and is also responsible for the script and character designs. Oshiyama's Durian Studio produced the work. Maya Kusumoto (Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth) is the main color artist. Kazuto Izumita (Great Pretender) is the visual synthesis director. Kiyoshi Hirose (Afro Samurai) is in charge of editing. Eriko Kimura (My Oni Girl) is the sound director and Haruka Nakamura is composing the music. Singer urara performs the movie theme “Soft Song” by Haruka Nakamura.
Fujimoto launched the one-shot manga on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2021. The manga had over 2.5 million views on its first day of release. Viz Media and MANGA Plus launched the manga digitally in English. Viz Media published the manga in print in September 2022. The company describes the story:
Overconfident Fujino and reserved Kyomoto couldn't be more different, but their love of drawing manga brings these two to small town girls together. A profound story about growing up and moving forward that only Tatsuki Fujimoto, the author of Chainsaw Man, could create.
The manga won the first Rakuten Kobo eBook Award in May 2023 and was ranked #1 in the 2022 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Manual (This manga is amazing!) It was also nominated for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award last year and placed second at the 15th Manga Taisho awards.
Fujimoto (Fire Punch) launched the Chainsaw Man manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2018 and ended the “first part”, the “Kōan” (Public Safety) arc, in December 2020. The second part of the manga , titled “Gakkō-hen”(School Part), began on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ service in July 2022. The manga has won Best Manga at The Harvey Awards for the past three years.
The manga inspired an anime that premiered on TV Tokyo and five other affiliated channels, as well as on Amazon Prime Video in October 2022. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in over 200 countries and territories in the world. The series is getting an anime film adaptation of the manga's “Reze-hen” (Reze Arc) titled Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.
