Two announcers from Yu Yu Hakusho’s Shadow Tournament get ready for some gory action in adorable cosplay inspired by the classic anime.
Created and modeled by popular cosplayers Brandywine Cosplay and Funsized Cosplay, Juri and Koto’s costumes feature accurate reproductions of the fun little but fun characters, including the character’s finned blue tail front and the latter’s fox-like furry ears.
Mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi serialized his Yu Yu Hakusho manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 1990 to July 1994, producing 175 individual chapters. The story follows the delinquent teenager Yusuke Urameshi, who, after his death and resurrection, becomes a Spirit Detective. His new position comes with the responsibility of protecting the Human World from evil demons and apparitions.

Fan-favorite characters Juri and Koto made their debut in the Shadow Tournament as announcers. The ‘Dark Tournament’ section sees Yusuke forced to compete in a series of mortal battles after he attracted the interest of the Toguro Brothers in a previous case. Luckily, he is able to team up with Kazuma Kuwabara – his boastful but supportive rival – a mysterious masked warrior and two former enemies who become allies Hiei and Kurama, two demons strong.
Alongside other classics like Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist and Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail, Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the best-selling manga in history, with over 78 million copies sold globally. The series wasn’t just a huge financial success; it usually works well with critics in its first publication. In fact, it won the shōnen category at the 1993 Shogakukan Manga Awards.
Studio Pierrot’s (Tokyo Ghoul) 90s anime adaptation premiered in 1992. At the end of last year, Crunchyroll announced a special Blu-ray home release to commemorate the film’s 30th anniversary including the film’s 30th anniversary. includes previously unnamed OVAs. Justin Cook (My Hero Academia) plays Yusuke in Yu Yu Hakusho’s English dub alongside Christopher Sabat (Dragon Ball Z) as Kuwabara, John Burgmeier (Attack on Titan) as Kurama and Chuck Huber (Fullmetal Alchemist) in as Hiei. Amber Cotton (Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan) and Jamie Lynn Marchi (Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious) cast Koto and Juri in the dub respectively.
The English dub and subtitled versions of the Yu Yu Hakusho anime are available to stream on Crunchyroll and Hulu. VIZ Media distributes Togashi’s manga in North America.
