Only 2,000 of the “Seiko x Pochacco 35th Anniversary Collaboration Watch” will be sold through Seiko’s online store, making it a limited edition collectible. Since direct sales are limited to Japan, interested customers will have to use trusted authorized shipping services. The watch is introduced by Sanrio, “It has a cute and mature design with a mint green dial and metal strap. Check out this limited edition watch with a celebratory mood, featuring Pochacco’s favorite banana cream pie and a cheerful look.” It comes in a special house-shaped box “sprinkled with decorations, gifts, and candy,” designed to be “a cute addition to your room’s decor.”
Pochacco’s watch joins a number of Hello Kitty-themed timepieces released this year, which also celebrate the milestone of her 50th birthday. Japanese brand Angel Heart released a Hello Kitty watch inspired by her pink aesthetic and the character’s unmistakable silhouette. Sanrio’s take on the same pink design, adding bows and hearts. The former opted for an original cat-shaped pouch instead of Sanrio’s glossy pink watch case, while watchmaker IKEPOD went for a completely different concept from its counterparts, replacing her signature pink with blue and a nautical aesthetic. The latter is also the most expensive to date, with the “RIPPLE of Kitty watch” costing around $2,500. In addition to the latest Pochacco watch, Seiko regularly collaborates with the Japanese IP, recently releasing two new One Piece watches to celebrate the anime series' 25th anniversary.
Pochacco was created in 1989 and is traditionally from Uguisu Yokocho, near the town of Fuwa Fuwa. He is described as a “curious boy” who enjoys going for walks, eating banana ice cream, and playing sports, especially basketball and soccer. The most recent Sanrio character rankings put him in second place — three spots and more than a million votes ahead of Hello Kitty.
