Since its launch, Black Myth: Wukong has set countless unprecedented records and it's not hard to see that this is one of the most successful blockbusters in Steam's history.
Not only did Black Myth: Wukong break the record for the number of concurrent players for a single player game, it also helped Steam set a new milestone for the number of users logged in at the same time, surpassing 37 million. And it seems that the Wukong fever shows no signs of stopping.
The proof is that just recently, Black Myth: Wukong, despite being released quite late in August, not appearing until the 20th, immediately became the most popular game on Steam Deck this month, thereby pushing Elden Ring down to second place. However, this is not all.
For the first time in history, Steam has seen more Chinese users than English. And the one who made this happen is none other than the blockbuster Black Myth: Wukong.
Accordingly, gamers have discovered that more people on Steam use Chinese than English as their native language, a first in the history of the gaming platform. According to data from Steam, 35.03% of all gamers use Simplified Chinese, while 31.17% use English. This is followed by Russian at 8.49%, Spanish at 3.86%. The main influencer is of course Black Myth: Wukong – a game from developer GameScience that sold over 10 million copies in just three days.
Black Myth: Wukong is largely inspired by a famous Chinese story, Journey to the West, and has become a hit in the country. It is no coincidence that Chinese Steam traffic increased by 50% during the release of Black Myth: Wukong. That shows how big the attraction of this blockbuster is.
