Satoru Gojo is definitely Jujutsu Kaisen’s most famous character. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Gojo contributed a lot to the global popularity of the series. After all, he has all the qualities that Shonen fans love. Gojo is a teacher, unparalleled in combat, eccentric, and kind when helping anyone in need.

However, Gojo was not always so full of charm. He wasn’t that famous before revealing his face behind the blindfold.
Lightning, a former translator for Jujutsu Kaisen, shares: “It’s funny to think that Gege drew Gojo looking extremely impressive early in the story to help avoid cancellation, then at the expense of requiring him to always look attractive from here on out.”
In the same post, Lightning also shared Gege’s Q&A when the interviewer asked: “Tell us what you especially care about when drawing Gojo.”
The author replied: “I’ll definitely draw him handsome after some point in the story.”
For those who don’t know, Jujutsu Kaisen was in danger of being canceled in its early stages. The series began publication in 2018 in Weekly Shonen Jump, but was about to be canceled after a few months.
According to leaked information, in the early stages, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga was at risk of being canceled/deleted due to low audience reception. So Gege was ready to end Yuji once and for all when he died in chapter 9 and ended the manga in a few more chapters before it was cancelled.
From creating a visually appealing character to killing off the main character, Gege Akutami found every way to make his series a success, and it was. Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the most successful anime and manga franchises thanks to Gege and of course Gojo.
Even in anime, the characters of Jujutsu Kaisen are often very attractive, receiving a lot of attention from fans. Gojo always stands out among them.
