Jujutsu Kaisen

Mahito still tops the list of most hated villains in recent Shounen films. And that's exactly why Mahito's death is one of the most satisfying moments in JJK manga for me!
Instead of the way he died, I'd say it was the moments right before his end that were more satisfying. A broken and defeated Mahito is fleeing from Itadori, like a prey fleeing from its hunter.
I enjoy every moment of it.
And the way he begged Geto to save him? That's the icing on the cake. However, that's also when an Akutami gives us one of the biggest twists in the JJK manga!!
This is the moment that makes Kenjaku(or fake Geto) become the main villain.
However, Mahito is basically on Kenjaku's side. So does he go and absorb and kill the cursed soul? Let's try to understand it better!
Why did Kenjaku/Geto kill Mahito?
Short answer, Kenjaku/Geto killed Mahito to get his Idle Transformation cursed technique. Kenjaku wants to use it to awaken the witches he has marked and then begin the extermination game.
RELATE TO:
What are Kenjaku (Brain)'s goals and motives in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Kenjaku is a complex schemer. He had been planning to organize the Killing Game for quite some time.
As mentioned in chapter 136, he has been diligently making contracts with selected witches and cursed spirits from the past for over a thousand years, turning them into cursed objects and giving them the chance to live again, in exchange for participating in a death game.
They will then reincarnate into their host when required.
On top of that, he also marks some potential people in the present time period (think of them as Junpei) who can awaken the cursed techniques and will be forced to participate in the game. play destroy.
However, the only way he can awaken these witches is with a cursed technique similar to Mahito's – Idle Transformation.
Why?
First things first, I bet Kenjaku wants to wake them all up together.
As Tengen mentioned in chapter 145, Kenjaku does not have enough curse energy to be able to awaken the player with Tengen's barrier.
Additionally, awakening each mage using one's own cursed technique is also extremely ineffective! So Idle Transformation is the only viable option, and Kenjaku thought of it a long time ago.
I know what you're wondering. If all Kenjaku/Geto wanted was Mahito's cursed technique, then he could have absorbed or killed him in the beginning of the manga, right?
Well, there are two reasons why he waited until Shibuya to kill Mahito.
Kenjaku wants to eliminate Gojo: Gojo is the biggest obstacle in his path. He had to seal him first, and cursed souls proved extremely useful in that sense. He wants to improve the quality of Mahito's cursed technique: The second point is something Kenjaku himself explains in chapter 136 and is just as important as taking Gojo out of the picture.
If you remember, Mahito is said to be a newly born cursed spirit who is only just beginning to understand his powers. When Mahito fought Itadori in Shibuya, that's when his curse technique really blossomed.
The task of awakening the witches was marked as quite large, and Kenjaku waited until Idle Transformation reached its peak. I also feel that he also wants to do something with Jogo's technique, do what he says!
In the end, the cursed souls were simply pieces on his chessboard and he manipulated them to do his bidding.
Why not use Mahito himself?
So we've established that Kenjaku essentially needs Mahito's cursed technique. And that's why he killed him.
However, we do know that once a cursed soul is absorbed by Geto's manipulation of the cursed soul, they effectively become the user's slave (completely obedient).
What I mean is this – Kenjaku could have absorbed Mahito and commanded him to remotely activate Idle Transformation, right? Mahito may also have a major cursed spirit in his arsenal.
So why didn't Kenjaku carry out this plan?
Although the answer is not yet clear,
I don't think Mahito is skilled enough to remotely activate a cursed technique. Kenjaku has lived for millennia and has a better understanding of the cursed technique and its nuances.
Additionally, it is mentioned in Jujutsu Kaisen that Kenjaku is the best user of barrier techniques after Tengen himself.
I don't know for sure if the remote activation of a cursed technique is based on some kind of barrier technique (according to Yuki's reaction), but if that's the case then it makes sense that Kenjaku would want to activate it himself This technique is reasonable.
Simply put, Mahito can't do it, Kenjaku is the only one who can. Perhaps it also has a binding oath that the person who contracts or marks the witches must be the only one to awaken them.
And the only way Kenjaku can absorb this technique is by using maximum Uzumaki, and that would essentially kill Mahito.
Will Mahito return?
Now that we understand why Geto/Kenjaku killed Mahito, I want to clarify one small detail about Mahito's death.
Mahito actually did not die when Kenjaku absorbed him using Geto's Cursed Soul Control. To understand why, let's go back to the Hidden Inventory arc when Toji destroyed Geto.
The only reason Toji spared his life was because he did not know what would happen to the cursed souls absorbed by Cursed Spirit Manipulation. This suggests that there is a very real possibility that entire absorbed souls could return to the real world.
So does that mean Mahito can come back to life? The answer is NOat least for the JJK series.
Yes, it's possible that the cursed souls absorbed by Geto's CSM could return, like we saw in Gosho Lake Colony in chapter 249.
However, it does not apply to Mahito because Kenjaku used him in maximum Uzumaki.
Cursed souls are nothing more than a mass of cursed energy realized into a form reminiscent of the concept they represent.
By using Uzumaki, Kenjaku not only extracted Mahito's cursed technique but also used any cursed energy Mahito had in the attack.
In short, Mahito is NOT coming back. The cursed soul died when Kenjaku used him in Maximum Uzumaki.
But I'm talking short term. That's because in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, cursed souls reincarnate after 100-year cycles.
So it's possible that Mahito will return at some point in the future, but certainly not during the course of the manga. At least that's what I feel!
It also explains why Kenjaku, who has lived for over a thousand years, is aware of a cursed soul like Mahito, and the curse technique Idle Transformation. Maybe he's encountered it in the past.
And that was probably when he figured out what he could do with the Idle Transformation and made a plan to extract it and use it for his own purposes!!
