Touken Ranbu Kai announces April 2 premiere date, additional cast

The upcoming Touken Ranbu Kai -Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji- anime series has announced that the series will premiere on April 2, 2024. The series will have a total of eight episodes. It was also revealed that six Touken Danshi, or swordsman boys, will join the cast: Koutetsu Samonji, Sayou Samonji, Ichiho Hitofuri, Namazuo Toushirou, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada and Tsurumaru Kuninaga. The voice actors from the original Touken Ranbu web browser game will also reprise their roles from the series.

Touken Ranbu Kai -Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji- is based on the 2016 Touken Ranbu stage play adaptation, Touken Ranbu: Kyouden Moyuru Honnouji. Aya Ichikawa will direct the film while Mari Takada is in charge of character design. Studio Domerica (Seven Knights Revolution: Hero Successor) is responsible for the animation production of the series. The series’ compilation was handled by Kenichi Suemitsu, who also wrote the original script for the 2016 stage play adaptation.

Touken Ranbu is a brand famous for its personified historical Japanese swords. It first started as an online web browser game created by DMM and Nitroplus called Touken Ranbu Online. The game was released in 2015 and has developed and inspired several anime adaptations, musicals and stage plays, live-action films, and hack-and-slash games since then. In the game, the player takes on the role of the sage Saniwa whose mission is to defeat evil forces known as the Historical Revisionists. To fight them, Saniwa has the ability to transform famous historical swords into Touken Danshi. Players can summon personified swords, form an army, and fight against evil forces trying to change history. There are currently over 200 Touken Danshi that players can summon in the game, including the new Touken Danshi, Kashagiri, which was added on January 16.

Touken Ranbu Kai will premiere on April 2, 2024.
