According to Kadokawa, the previously announced anime adaptation of Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
BOOK WALKER’s global listing for the series’ first manga chapter also lists an anime adaptation for 2025.
The dark fantasy light novels are written by Rocket Shoukai and illustrated by Mephisto. It was first launched as a web novel on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu website on October 28, 2020. Kadokawa then published the light novels on September 17, 2021, with 5 volumes released as of August 2023.
A manga adaptation by Tsumi Inoue launched in Dengeki Comic Regulus on March 25, 2022. A single tankoubon volume was released in December 2022.
Yen Press released the light novel Sentenced to Be a Hero in English under the Yen On label, under the title Sentenced to Brave Punishment. It describes the story as follows:
