Microsoft has just officially announced that the Xbox 360 online store will close completely on July 24, 2024. Any titles that have been purchased through the store by Xbox 360 owners will still be playable. as usual after this timeline. However, there will also be a series of deleted games that users need to be aware of.
Specifically, according to Microsoft, more than 220 digital games originally developed for the Xbox 360 system that cannot be backward compatible with the new generation Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S will be at risk of disappearing forever when the store Xbox 360 closed.
This list includes many “classic” games that have been very popular in the past. That’s why there are many opinions that these Xbox 360 games should be “preserved” by Microsoft in some way, even if they have fallen out of favor at the present time.
It should be noted that Xbox 360 system owners still have nearly a year left to purchase any of the games on this list for their own enjoyment or collection. It also does not rule out the possibility that Microsoft will try to add some of the games mentioned above to be backward compatible with newer Xbox systems as a way of preserving “digital heritage”.
Additionally, while gamers won’t be able to purchase games on the Xbox 360 store after July 29, 2024, they can still download content they’ve purchased at any time. Microsoft will also maintain Xbox 360 online multiplayer services for the foreseeable future. For Movies & TV content, it’s all still available to watch on PCs running Windows 10 or later, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
