When a game fails, there are many reasons to explain this problem. That could be because the game is a bit weak in terms of style, doesn’t deliver a compelling enough story, or worse, can’t stand out in an extremely competitive market like the world gaming village right now. But sometimes, there are many extremely quality games, but still fail badly for only one reason. That was choosing the wrong launch time.
Horizon: Forbidden West
Horizon: Forbidden West is an ambitious sequel to the blockbuster Horizon Zero Dawn. Still retaining its strengths are the impressive beauty of the original era, open-world gameplay and a deep storytelling with tons of new content. However, Horizon: Forbidden West could not be as successful as expected.
The reason is because the game was released just a week before Elden Ring – the open world blockbuster that later stormed and became the best game of 2022. And since then, no one has mentioned it. More to Horizon: Forbidden West too. Also quite unlucky for this franchise, when the previous version, Horizon Zero Dawn, was also released three days before the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Titanfall 2
Immediately after its release, Titanfall 2 received countless positive reviews about its quality and innovation. The story is emotional, the game mechanics also change with many different forms of combat, the idea that Titanfall 2 will create a new milestone for its brand. However, the game’s sales were only half that of the first version of Titanfall.
The reason is because it was released just a week after the launch of Battefield 1 – also an EA product. EA’s aim is to hope its two projects can best compete with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare from Blizzard. However, because of that, Titanfall 2 was sandwiched between the two blockbusters mentioned above, and could not achieve the expected success.
Alan Wake
So far, Alan Wake is still considered one of the classic games and deserves every penny for any gamer to own. Only thing, this game would have been famous earlier, if the launch time was a little different.
Simply, Alan Wake came out just 4 days before Red Dead Redemption. There’s very little in common between the two games, other than that they’re both third-person and focus on beautiful scenes and impressive stories. However, the level of expectations of Red Dead Redemption was very high at the time, and this also became the reason why Alan Wake took countless hours to achieve his inherent success.
