A high school student enlists the beauty of Studio Ghibli to invite his girlfriend to prom.
Posted on Reddit, the recommendation note features cute illustrations of famous forest spirits from My Neighbor Totoro, soot elves from Spirited Away, and Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle; It reads, “The heart is a burden to carry. Can I bring your heart to the ball?” According to the post, the OP will present the note along with a goodie bag filled with candies, snacks, and Studio Ghibli merchandise.
Ghibli offers a lot of merchandise for a perfect proposition
The company has released numerous collections and products that celebrate the iconic animation studio’s incredible work history and that fans can use in their own cute proposition. For example, Hasamiyaki Ceramics now offers a special My Neighbor Totoro teapot set that comes with three types of green tea flavors: sweet potato-scented mikan (citrus), genmai (brown rice) flavor, and corn tea.
Furthermore, Studio Ghibli and Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten, a company known for high-quality manufacturing for more than three centuries in business, are collaborating on a line of handmade products. One of the pieces in the collection is a miniature woodcarving of the studio’s mascot for an astounding 330,000 yen ($2,450).
Lately, the classic animation studio has not only served as an inspiration for lovable merchandise and proposals; Studio Ghibli’s films also serve as the basis for many examples of incredible fan-generated content. Notably, a soap racer in London built a funky and fuzzy car version of Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro. The car managed to achieve an impressive top speed of at least 31 miles per hour. Furthermore, another Reddit user put together a stylish cosplay of the main character from Porco Rosso; The outfit includes not only a set of aviator glasses and a bright white scarf, but also the iconic freebie bounty hunter’s pig nose.
Studio Ghibli fans have much more to offer beyond merchandise and fan-generated content inspired by many of the studio’s films; How Do You Live? by Hayao Miyazaki, the movie the iconic filmmaker has retired (again) to make, will premiere in July. Based on the novel by Yoshino Genzaburo, How Do You Live? According to producer Toshio Suzuki, it takes 60 animators per month to complete one minute of animation.
Many Studio Ghibli classics, such as Castle in the Sky and Whisper of the Heart, are available to stream on HBO Max.
