Throughout its history, the Berserk manga has been adapted into various forms of media, including animated series, films, and video games.
The first anime adaptation, produced by Oriental Light and Magic (OLM), aired in 1997 and covered the Golden Age arc of the manga. Although praised for its dark and gritty storytelling, the animation quality was criticized for its lack of consistency and limited budget.
In 2012, Studio 4°C released a trilogy titled “Berserk: The Golden Age Arc,” which retold the same plot with improved visuals and condensed storytelling. However, fans were disappointed by the use of CGI animation, which felt out of place and detracted from the overall viewing experience.
The most recent adaptation, a two-season anime series by GEMBA and Millepensee that aired in 2016 and 2017, attempted to cover the Conviction and Falcon of the Millennium Empire arcs. Unfortunately, the heavy reliance on CGI animation and rushed pacing led to a largely negative reception from both fans and critics alike.
