Yuri Sonoda’s Cat Companions Maruru and Hachi manga has also been licensed Image courtesy of Seven Seas Entertainment Seven Seas Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it has licensed the Witch and Mercenary light novel, Cat Companions Maruru and Hachi manga, and the manga Hatsune Miku: Cantarella ~Poison of Blue~.
Seven Seas will release the first volume of the light novel Witch and Mercenary (Majo to Yōhei) by Chohokiteki Kaeru and Kanase Benchi in print in October, and has also planned a digital release soon. Seven Seas describes the story:
There is nothing in this world more dangerous than a witch. The epitome of fear and terror, they can summon floods at will, create fireballs from the air, or even destroy entire countries overnight. Bear their wrath, and no one is safe. At least that’s what people think, and that’s exactly why they want Siasha dead. After another violent battle for her life, she teams up with Zig, a mercenary, and they set off into the unknown lands to find somewhere she can live in peace. But are this pair right for the lost magic and vicious monsters ahead?
Chohokiteki Kaeru began serializing the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in June 2021, and ended it in December 2022. Micro magazine published the first print volume with illustrations by Kanase Benchi in May 2023. Micro Magazine published the second volume in September 2023 and the third volume will publish on March 19.
Makoto Miyagi launched a manga adaptation of the story on the manga app Magazine Pocket on January 28. Kodansha’s K MANGA service is publishing the manga in English.

Maruru lived a pampered life until one day, he ran after a flock of sparrows and couldn’t find his way home. He meets Hachi, a tough stray cat, who says he doesn’t need a spoiled house cat on his territory and chases it away. But then Maruru helps Hachi out of a difficult situation and they team up to face life on the streets together.
Sonoda launched the manga on Kodansha’s Comic Days manga website in December 2021. Kodansha published the manga’s fourth volume in October 2023.

Cesare, the eldest child of the infamous Borgia family in 15th-century Italy, learns that he has a sister he has never met—Lucrezia. He was also injected with a poisonous drug called “Cantarella,” which had been passed down in the family for generations. The story opens after Cesare (played by Kaito) meets Lucrezia (Hatsune Miku) for the first time…
The manga is based on the song “Cantarella” by producer Kurousa-P. WhiteFlame and Ichika published the manga in Kadokawa’s digital manga magazine Age Premium in 2012. Kadokawa published a compilation booklet for the manga.
