Sand Land: The Series will begin streaming on Disney+ worldwide on March 20. The first seven episodes will be released at the same time.
The film is a slightly altered version of last year’s Sand Land, which premiered in Japan in August. It is described as having cuts that could not be included before, “famous scenes ” from the original manga by Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball and new story content after the movie.
The Sand Land manga series debuted in 2000 and is 14 chapters long in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The chapters are collected into a single volume. Viz Media describes the premise as follows:
In the distant future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the water supply is controlled by a greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Chief Rao enlists the help of the demon king… and captures the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. The trio unexpectedly set off together across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and their most dangerous enemy… the King’s own army! It’s travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama!
A Sand Land video game will be released on April 26 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Steam.
