Chainsaw Man is reportedly getting an animated film and a second part.
Despite fan grievances about Studio MAPPA’s radio silence about Chainsaw Man’s condition, the dark fantasy manga may have two major projects in the works. According to Shonen Jump News (@/WSJ_manga), a Weibo account has leaked information that Chainsaw Man will receive a new anime season and film adaptation. MAPPA has yet to confirm the second season nor the anime as of the publication of this article.
The first season of Chainsaw Man, adapted from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s popular manga series, premiered in October 2022 with 12 episodes, the final volume introducing a fan-favorite character. Directed by Ryū Nakayama, this adaptation uses a more cinematic approach to the story — a style that has divided the fanbase. While many fans appreciated Nakayama’s vision, there were also many fans who were unhappy with it and filed petitions, calling for a remake with another director. Although the manga has more than 24 million copies in circulation with just 14 tankōnon volumes and has won numerous awards, including the Harvey Award for Best Manga, the CEO of MAPPA said the Chainsaw Man anime has had no “impact” ” like an anime adaptation of another anime. the popular series Jujutsu Kaisen.
MAPPA is not satisfied with Chainsaw Man
“Financially, it was a complete success,” says Manabu Otsuka. “However, I am still not satisfied with whether it has the same impact as the Jujutsu Kaisen that I studied most recently.” The CEO cited low DVD/Blu-ray sales as one of the reasons he felt the anime fell short of expectations, but stated his intention to “explore how to reach target audiences, who will pay for CSM’s work.”
Chainsaw Man debuted with the first part, titled “Public Safety”, in Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2018 to December 2020. The manga went on hiatus before the start of the second season, called the “School” part, in Shōnen jump+ in July 2022. Part 1 revolves around Denji, an impoverished 16-year-old who gains the ability to transform into the mighty Chainsaw Man. Upon meeting Makima, Denji decides to join the Public Safety Demon Hunter and meets Aki Hayakawa, another Demon Hunter with an eye for revenge, and Power, a Blood Fiend who seems to have little interest in non-Demons. her or her beloved. cat. The first season featured 12 incredible artists performing 12 different ending songs.
